A significant amount of work and public consultation was undertaken in the establishment of the Lara District Community Bank Branch of Bendigo & Adelaide Bank.
A group of interested community members were briefed by Bendigo Bank on 27th February 2008 in relation to the proposal to establish the Lara District Community Bank Branch, and a committee was formed to evaluate the proposal.
On the 14th March 2008 a public meeting was held to discuss the Community Bank concept and the steps required to form a Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank, at Lara. As a result, the committee engaged an independent consultant, Richard, Sinnott & Delahunty to conduct the feasibility study in relation to the proposal.
The results of the study were presented to the committee at a meeting held on 24th November 2008 and it was unanimously voted to proceed towards the establishment of the Lara District Community Bank Branch.
Lara District Community Enterprise Ltd (LDCE) was incorporated.
The branch was officially opened 30th of June 2009 by Greg Gillett, Chief General Manager, Brand Development, Bendigo Bank & Chairman Lara District Community Enterprise, Neville Trevena.
Since then we have gone on to contribute more than $500 000 back into the local community through grants and sponsorship's. This funding has contributed to the purchase of new vehicles for the SES unit and Lara CFA, new fire truck and water tanker for the Little River Fire Brigade, and defribbilaters for the Lara RSL as well as actively supporting a range of schools, sporting clubs and community groups.
