(This message is an extract from our monthly Shareholder newsletter) 2019 has started with a flurry of activities from a number of our community partners already which is great to see.
The Lara Tennis Club conducted an open day to show off their new resurfaced court (completed following a grant from our bank) as well as introducing potential members. It was a great day with quite a few people participating in tennis activities including some serving competitions with prizes.
We were very pleased to support the day with a number of directors attending and enjoying a well run day.
T20 Cricket also came to Lara this month with a twilight match against Leopold. We supported the evening by offsetting costs associated with having a waterslide and barbecue. It is hoped this will become an annual event with the Leopold Community Bank supporting the Leopold Club. Proceeds from the evening which was well supported by the wider community were donated to the McGrath Foundation in support of Breast cancer.
Over the Australia Day weekend the RSL launched their new renovated facilities. We have been long time supporters of the Lara RSL and it was great to see they were able to attract funding from several sources to allow this major refurbishment to occur. Along with Federal funds and a grant from Geelong Foundation we also provided funds to allow the entire project to be completed in a short period of time. The Lara RSL continues to be an active RSL and has been able to increase their membership over recent years.
Each of these groups are providing facilities and activities that contribute to the diverse range of activities for our community to participate in. We are proud to provide the support we do and look forward to many more years of supporting our community. As a Board we try to get around as many groups as possible in order to have those conversations to encourage people to bank with the bank that supports them. As shareholders we encourage you to talk with your family and friends about what we do. Everybody likes our story, but often need a push to make the move to changing their banking habits.
Lastly for those who drop into the branch please take the time to introduce yourself to Bec who has joined our branch as our new Customer Relationship Officer. In addition we have a new trainee commencing in Feb after completing his education at Lara Secondary College. Another good reason to banking locally as doing so encourages local employment.
